BASF launches engineering plastics that meet EU food standards

The EU's GMP standard for plastic materials that can be directly contacted with foods took effect in August 2008. BASF will launch a series of new engineering plastics in Europe dedicated to the food market, such as Ultramid® A3K FC (unreinforced) and Ultramid A3EG6 FC PA 6.6 materials and composite PBT materials, of which two are not enhanced Ultradur® B4520 FC and glass-reinforced Ultradur B4300 G6 FC materials, in addition to the introduction of three Ultradur FC base polymers. FC (food contact) stands for contact with food.
The GMP standard has increased the quality assurance and process control system requirements for plastic materials that come into contact with food. BASF has long been manufacturing plastics used in the food industry and has always adhered to high safety standards. The new standard requires plastics manufacturers to more carefully select and produce qualified materials, implement more comprehensive procedures and quality control. BASF will provide its customers with EU certifications.
The Ultrason® (PSU; PESU; PPSU) and Ultraform® (POM) series products have always been focused on the food sector and have passed all necessary quality certifications.
