SKF Launches New Bearings to Reduce Carbon Emissions and Total Costs

SKF launches new Extended Life spherical plain bearings and rod ends. This maintenance-free bearing does not require relubrication and is mainly used in agricultural machinery, forestry machinery and engineering machinery. This product belongs to the SKF Beyond Zero* combination.
SKF Extended Life spherical plain bearings help reduce the cost of ownership and environmental impact because they have a long service life and do not require relubrication. For example, a 100 mm ID bearing can save up to 876 grams of grease per year. A tractor with 6 bearings of this type and size can save up to 5.2 kilograms of grease per year, which is equivalent to a reduction of 7.7 kilograms of CO2 emissions per year. This calculation is based on the grease saved and does not include a 37% loss of friction.
Juergen Scholer, SKF's product manager for plain bearings, said: “The high robustness and high energy efficiency of this bearing benefit from friction systems including special surface treatments, greases and seals as well as bearing internal geometry. In addition, Skye The Extended Life sliding bearings are phosphatized to prevent corrosion and reduce wear. The bearings are then filled with grease and sealed."
SKF Extended Life sliding bearings are equipped with a heavy duty three-lip seal. This seal is one of the key components to reduce the total cost of ownership. These seals prevent the ingress of contaminants, thereby avoiding poorly lubricated conditions that can lead to premature bearing failure.
SKF Extended Life sliding bearings fill the gap between the standard steel/steel plain bearings and the maintenance-free SKF TX plain bearings. To date, steel/steel spherical plain bearings have always required relubrication during regular maintenance.
