The cause of poisoning incidents on January 9 in Jiangsu Yizheng Chengda Machinery Factory has been confirmed. It was caused by the night-time discharge of waste liquid by Huaao Fluorochemical Branch. At present, the Huafu Chemical Branch Company has been sealed up. Five persons in charge of the company and the parties involved have been detained by local public security organs.
On January 9, some employees of Yizheng Chengda Machinery Factory suffered from chest tightness, vomiting and other symptoms after night shift. They were treated successively at Yizheng People’s Hospital, and one of the workers died in the afternoon of the same day. After receiving the report, the party committees of Yangzhou and Yizheng paid great attention to it and immediately launched an emergency plan. Medical rescues, cause investigations, and aftermath handling were quickly started. According to preliminary investigations, the cause of death of this worker was at about 8:30 p.m. on January 8th, when the on-duty staff of Huafu Chemical Branch of Yizheng Chengda Machinery Factory illegally dumped raffinate into the sewage pipeline.
On January 10, the Yizheng City Public Security Bureau filed investigations according to law. On January 12, five employees of Huaao Fluorochemical Branch Co., Ltd., such as Sumuo, Wu, and Ding, were detained by the public security organs according to law.
At present, Huaao Fluorine Chemical Branch has been sealed up. The aftermath of a dead employee at Chengda Machinery Factory has been properly handled. According to tests conducted by the environmental protection department, no abnormalities were found in the air quality of the surrounding factories and surrounding areas.
