Dolby Laboratories uses biosensors to understand human responses

According to foreign media reports, Dolby Laboratories recently is using biosensors to test human responses to video shows. In a room with three screens and a dozen speakers, a woman wore a 64-channel EEG cap (a biomedical cap used to measure the electrical activity of brain neurons). She has a tracker on her wrist that measures heart rate and electrical skin response, a pulse oximeter at her fingertips, and a thermography camera in her room to see how her skin temperature changes.

Poppy Crum, chief scientist at Dolby Laboratories, said Dolby is trying to better understand the human experience of video and audio. The company initially began researching human physiology on video and audio in 2012 and created a complete biophysical laboratory in 2015. Once processed and analyzed, these raw data can help the media produce the most appropriate decisions.
