Ticona Deploys Engineering Plastics Production in China

Ticona Engineering Plastics, a company in Celanese, announced that the first products of its Cehtran Long Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic (LFRT) production facility have been delivered to customers in the near future after nearly 3 months of trial production. The production facility was built in Celanese's Nanjing Chemical Industry Base, which has 7 production facilities and is scheduled to be fully operational in mid-2009. As the first wholly-owned production facility for Ticona in Asia, the successful start-up of the Celstran long-fibre reinforced thermoplastic unit is a milestone for Celanese's Nanjing Chemical Base.

At present, China has become the world’s second largest producer of plastic products. In 2007, the total industrial output value increased by 27.06% year-on-year. Among them, the output value of engineering plastics grows fastest. It is expected that it will still grow at a rate of more than 20% in the next 5 to 10 years. Therefore, from now to 2010, Ticona Engineering Plastics is strategically deploying a series of investments in China. Investment projects include world-class monomer, polymer, and compounding modifications to provide technical resources, commercial resources, and production facilities for customer application development. The Celstran LFRT device is only part of Ticona's long-term investment plans in China and Asia. In addition, Ticona also started to build other production facilities in China to manufacture high-performance engineering plastics and mixed ingredients to meet the needs of the Asian market. Among them, the production of GUR UHMWPE is planned to be put into operation in Nanjing in the third quarter of this year. The new device will produce ultra-high molecular weight polymers with outstanding wear resistance, high impact strength, and non-stick properties. With excellent properties such as self-lubricating properties and excellent mechanical properties. The company's compounding device will also be put into production in Nanjing in the first quarter of 2009. This cutting-edge device will be Vectra Liquid Crystal Polymer, Hostaform Copolymer Formaldehyde, Cehnex Thermoplastic Polyester, Ritefiex Thermoplastic Polyester Elastomer, Vandar Thermoplastic Polyester Alloy and Fortron Polyphenylene Sulfide in Ticona's portfolio. Performance engineering plastics manufacture mixed ingredients. The company is also planning to build a Vectm liquid crystal polymer production line to produce highly crystalline and heat-sensitive thermoplastics. Thin-walled parts made from it are characterized by high accuracy, dimensional stability, high temperature resistance, and chemical resistance. At the same time planning also includes the acetal copolymer production line.

In addition to local production, Ticona will also embark on a direct sales model, selling its registered trademarked engineering plastics products to China and across Asia. In the first quarter of this year, Ticona opened a Chinese website to integrate online tools and materials technology content; in the second quarter, it established a customer application development center in Shanghai; the company also plans to deploy more than 70 sales, marketing and development personnel in Asia this year to set up in China. 10 regional offices.
