Lanzhou University of Technology develops new welding materials to fill the domestic gap

Xinhua News Agency, Lanzhou, October 27 (He Jun) The research team led by Professor Fan Ding, a doctoral tutor at Lanzhou University of Technology, has developed a new type of active welding material for seven years. Experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the domestic welding authority expert Pan Jiwei and other experts have identified that many indicators of this project have reached the international advanced level, and the research results have filled the domestic gap. This scientific and technological achievement has declared 3 invention patents, and currently there are 2 invention patent certificates issued by the State Intellectual Property Office.

Professor Fan Ding introduced that the principle of the material is to cause the welding arc to shrink or the molten pool to change, so that the welding penetration depth is significantly increased, which can reach 2-3 times of the conventional tungsten argon arc welding (TIG welding) penetration depth. In this way, the production efficiency is greatly improved. For a steel plate with a thickness of 12 mm, it can be completed without a groove. Compared with the conventional TIG welding, the production efficiency is improved by 6 times and the energy saving is over 80%. Moreover, the active agent has no negative influence on the microstructure and properties of the weld, and overcomes the adverse effect of the fluctuation of trace element content in the welded plate on the weld formation, and also reduces the welding heat input, so that the welding deformation is significantly reduced.

Fan Ding said that the active agent material is non-toxic, non-polluting and meets environmental protection requirements. It can be widely used in petrochemical, transportation, aerospace, building bridges, mining and metallurgy. At present, active material materials for low carbon steel and stainless steel welding have been put into use by many companies such as Langfang Pipeline Bureau, Dongfang Boiler Factory and Nanshan Power Company.
