Through the pot experiment, the correlation between the chlorophyll meter readings of tea leaves and nitrogen application levels, the nitrogen nutrition levels of tea plants, and the yields were studied, and some factors influencing the accuracy of chlorophyll meter determination were discussed in order to monitor the use of chlorophyll meters. During the experiment, 10 pieces of the first mature leaf on the tea branch were randomly taken from each pot of the pot and the SPAD reading was determined. Each leaf was measured on both sides of leaf veins in the middle of the leaf. During the measurement, attention was paid to avoiding damaged leaves and veins. After the SPAD value was determined, the leaves were ground, dried and ground, and the total nitrogen content was determined by the Kjeldahl method. In addition, the SPAD-valued leaves were selected. Through chlorophyll meter determination, the total nitrogen content in mature leaves of tea plants increased with the increase of nitrogen application rate. When the nitrogen application level was below N3, the total nitrogen content increased more. When the nitrogen application level exceeded N3, the increase decreased. The SPAD value of mature leaves of tea plants was significantly positively correlated with the total nitrogen content. The total nitrogen content was high and the SPAD value was large. The SPAD readings of mature leaves vary with the growing season and are measured differently during different sampling periods. Usually, the seasonal change of tea leaves occurs in the middle or late May, when the new leaf is still in the stage of rapid growth and maturation, the chlorophyll content is relatively low, and the SPAD value is also at a relatively low level. In spite of this, there is still a very significant positive correlation between leaf nitrogen content and SPAD readings, but the mathematical relationship between the two is different due to different sampling times.
The chlorophyll meter determines the chlorophyll content through the difference between the light absorption of the two wavelengths of the leaf. The measurement result is a relative value that reflects the chlorophyll content in the plant leaf.
