South Korea’s LGCNS announced that it had received an order from Tauron Dystrybucja, the largest power company in Poland, to provide and build a smart metering infrastructure and related systems worth 48 billion won. This is the largest single smart grid order received by Korean companies. LGCNS is a subsidiary of South Korea's LG Group.
LGCNS obtained this order through alliances with the Danish Eltel network, the Olsztyn Polish network, and the global IT system. The smart meter infrastructure is an important smart grid device that changes the electricity price according to the supply and demand conditions.
LGCNS will install smart metering infrastructure for 330,000 households in Wroclaw, Poland and surrounding areas. Installation will continue from this month until April 2017.
As the EU mandates member states to install smart metering infrastructure for 80% of households, Poland must complete smart meter infrastructure installations for 16 million households within the next six years.
LGCNS' acquisition of Polish smart meter infrastructure orders means that the LG Group is accelerating its pace of seizing the European smart grid market.
