AVL, a global operating company headquartered in Graz, Austria, and GIF, a well-known professional gearbox company headquartered in Alsdorf, Germany, have signed a cooperation agreement. It covers the development of powertrains and gearboxes for passenger cars and light trucks as well as bench technology. The purpose of this cooperation is to combine AVL's proven powertrain technology in the global automotive industry with GIF gearbox technology.
The agreement stipulates all development services in markets around the world in cooperation. GIF's mechanical and functional development of the gearbox combined with AVL's software and application engineering will be provided to AVL's worldwide sales and engineering network. Both parties believe that it is increasingly necessary to focus the future development on the combination of the engine and the transmission, especially when it comes to problems with the drive and electronic components.
AVL's CEO HelmutList said: "The two companies can benefit from the strategic merger of technologies because of the increasing demand in the international market and increasingly fierce competition."
AVL is the world's largest privately-owned company in powertrain systems, internal combustion engines, alternative drive systems, instrumentation, test systems, and mathematical simulation software development.
Ulrich Rohs, Managing Director of GIF, said: "The strong cooperation of the two complementary partners covers all aspects of the development of the powertrain."
GIF is a gearbox developer providing leading engineering services in gearbox design, functional and mechanical development, and powertrain testing.
